Lesson Preview

To analyze motion in two dimensions, we split the momentum vector into components relative to a coordinate system.

Consider a momentum vector with magnitude pp directed at an angle θ\theta from the positive xx-axis. We decompose this vector into perpendicular scalar components using trigonometry:
